Privacy Policy & Cookies

CHESSPLUSONE.COM is built to be played without creating an account or handing over any personal information. This page explains, plainly, what little data we do collect and why.

What we collect

While you're playing, your browser sends a randomly-generated, anonymous session identifier to our server. It's used only to:

This identifier is not linked to your name, email address, or any other personal information, and a new one is generated each time you load the page.

The country shown on the map comes from Cloudflare's own edge geolocation of your request — a country-level code such as "AR" or "JP" — not from an IP address that we store. We never see or keep your actual IP address, and nothing more precise than your country (no city, no exact location) is ever shown.

If you play online multiplayer, that same country-level information is also shared directly with your opponent and, if your game is being watched, with anyone spectating — this is what lets the Spectator Bar show a flag for each side. That sharing happens over the same direct, browser-to-browser connection your moves already travel on; it does not pass through our server at all.

The site owner can view this same aggregate information (games played, countries, live activity) through a password-protected internal dashboard. It shows the same anonymous, aggregate data described above — nothing more, and nothing tied to any individual visitor.

Saved game files

The Save Game and Load Game buttons work entirely inside your own browser. A saved game is written straight to a file on your device — we never receive, see, or store it, and loading one back in reads it directly from your device the same way.

Cookies & Advertising

CHESSPLUSONE.COM uses Google AdSense to help keep the site free to play. AdSense may use cookies to show ads based on your browsing activity ("personalized ads"), unless you choose otherwise.

The first time you visit, a small notice lets you choose between personalized ads or non-personalized ads — no ad-related cookies are set until you make that choice (or, on repeat visits, based on the choice you already made). You can change your choice anytime using the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer.

Google's own use of cookies and data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy). You can also review or opt out of personalized advertising generally at adssettings.google.com.

Separately, the session identifier described above for the live player count and game totals lives only in your browser's memory for that page load — it is not a cookie and does not persist once you close the tab. And the only OTHER cookie CHESSPLUSONE.COM itself ever sets is for the site owner's own login to the internal dashboard mentioned above — regular visitors and players never receive that one.

How long data is kept

Records used for the "playing now" count are automatically deleted after about an hour of inactivity. The totals of completed games are kept indefinitely, since they are anonymous counts and contain no personal or identifying information. Your ad-cookie preference is kept in your own browser until you change it or clear your browser data; we don't control how long Google itself retains advertising data — see Google's Privacy Policy for that.

Third parties

We do not sell or share any data with third parties ourselves. Two third-party services are involved in running the Site:

Your rights

Because we don't collect personal information or use accounts, there's generally nothing tied to you individually for us to access, correct, or delete. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us.

We may update this page as the site evolves. Any meaningful change will be reflected here, along with an updated date below.
